With the philosophy of being concerned about and contribute to society, Cathay General Hospital was established by Cathay Life Insurance Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of the Lin-Yuan Group. Inaugurated on February 15, 1977, Cathay General Hospital established a teaching collaboration with the full support of the Medical college of National Taiwan University and NTU Hospital, laying a solid foundation.
Initially, 180 beds were open out of the planned 300 general beds. Equipped with what was then the most advanced medical facilities, Cathay General Hospital sought to provide the general public with refined and quality medical services. In concert with a full-time system being promoted at the NTU hospital, Cathay General Hospital provided services of NTU hospital physicians, raising the standard of health care services.
The quality of health care services provided by Cathay General Hospital has been positively acknowledged by the general public, as evidenced by the ever-growing volume of patients. Several expansion projects were completed in 1984,1986 and1995, increasing the capacity to 600 beds. In 1997 Cathay General Hospital took over Neihu Branch which had 100 general beds and added Psychiatry In 1990 Cathay Medical Research Institute was funded. To further extend the scope of our medical service, Hsinchu Branch with 217 general beds and 126 special beds has completed construction in August, 2002, and provide high quality medical care, especially in Pediatric care, Neurological surgery and Emergency care. Later, Sijhih Branch was opened on December 7, 2005. It’s presently possessed of 480 general beds and 111 special beds. In addition, from April 1, 2008, the Cathay Neihu Clinic has served patients instead of Neihu Branch.
Since its establishment, Cathay General Hospital has devoted itself to the commitment- "To contribute society by providing high-quality medical services", and has strived to develop the standards in areas of medical services, education, and research. Cathay General Hospital has been accredited as a candidate for medical center status and teaching hospital status by Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. This honor is a recognition of the outstanding achievements of the hospital by the medical community.
With fully integration of Cathay General Hospital, Sijhih Branch, Hsinchu Branch, and the Cathay Neihu Clinic, Cathay Healthcare Network has been well established. In the future, Cathay General Hospital will continue to dedicate itself to improvements in research, education, and training of quality physicians, helping to raise the standards of medical excellence, and provide the highest quality healthcare to the general public.
